Avantasia

Avantasia es una banda de Metal con estilos de Opera, formada por tres álbumes escritos por Tobias Sammet, vocalista y líder de la banda de Hard Rock/heavy Metal/Power Metal Edguy. El nombre de este proyecto es una mezcla de dos palabras: Avalon y Fantasía "y describe un mundo más allá de la imaginación humana". Este proyecto consiste en dos CDs de 23 piezas, en el que cuenta una historia ficticia de un monje dominico, Gabriel, en el año 1602.

En 1999, durante la gira de Edguy "Theater Of Salvation", Tobias Sammet comenzó a formar la idea de una ópera en metal, un álbum conceptual con varios músicos invitados. Cuando la gira estaba terminada sacó su plan de hacer este proyecto, invitando a varios artistas conocidos del metal como Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray), André Matos (ex Angra, ex Shaaman) y Michael Kiske (ex Helloween). En 2000 salió el primer EP con el nombre de Avantasia. En 2001 salió a la luz "The Metal Opera" y el proyecto fue completado en 2002 con "The Metal Opera Pt. II"

La 3ª entrega de Avantasia "The Scarecrow" salió a la venta el 25 de enero del 2008, el cd cuenta con las aportaciones de Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween), Eric Singer (Kiss), Alice Cooper, Rudolf Schenker (Scorpions), Kai Hansen & Henjo Richter (Gamma Ray), Bob Catley (Magnum), Jorn Lande y muchos más.

Asphyx

Asphyx es una banda holandesa de death metal que incorpora elementos de doom metal y thrash metal en su música.

La banda fue formada en 1987 por Bob Bagchus y Tonny Brookhuis. Eric Daniels entro como segundo guitarrista y Chuck Colli estuvo a cargo del bajo y las voces; esta formación lanzó el demo Enter the Domain. En Marzo de 1989 Colli fue reemplazado por Theo Loomans y grabaron el demo Crush the Cenotaph. Entonses Brookhuis deja la banda y los tres que quedaron grabaron el álbum Embrace the Death que no fue lanzado debido a problemas con la disquera. Después Martin Van Drunen deja Pestilence ha principios de los noventa, y se une a Asphyx y firman para Century Media Records. Después del lanzamiento de su álbum debut, The Rack, se van de gira por Europa con Entombed. Siguiendo con un tour con Bolt Thrower y Benediction en 1992. Poco después de grabar su segundo álbum, Last One on Earth, Van Drunen deja la banda y sería reemplazado por Ron Van der Pol. Eventualmente Bagchus deja la banda también. Fue reemplazado por Sander Van Hoof. Su álbum auto-titulado fue lanzado en 1994 y dirigiría a la banda a su separación en 1995. El mismo año Loomans y Bagchus deciden reformar Asphyx y graban el álbum God Cries. Por ese entonces la banda lanza el álbum Embrace the Death. Sin embargo la banda se separo de nuevo después de este lanzamiento. En 1997 Soulburn fue fundada por Bagchus y Daniels y junto con el cantante y bajista de Pentacle Wannes Gubbles grabaron el álbum Feeding on Angels. En el 2000 renombraron el proyecto a Asphyx y grabaron el álbum On the Wings of Inferno con la misma alineación. Sin embargo se separaron de nuevo en el 2001. En Enero de 2007, la banda se reunió con Van Drunen, Gubbels, Paul Baayens y Bagchus. No tienen intenciones de grabar un nuevo álbum, pero se concentran en las actuaciones en vivo.

Slayer

Slayer es una agrupación musical de thrash metal estadounidense fundada en 1981 por los guitarristas Jeff Hanneman y Kerry King en Huntington Park, California. Para completar su formación, King y Hanneman reclutaron al bajista y vocalista de origen chileno Tom Araya y al baterista de origen cubano Dave Lombardo. Éste último ha estado fluctuando dentro y fuera de la banda durante varios años. Slayer alcanzó la fama gracias a la edición de Reign in Blood, calificado como «el álbum más heavy de todos los tiempos» según la revista Kerrang!. Gracias a esta fama, el grupo fue incluido durante los años ochenta dentro de los cuatro grandes del thrash metal junto con Metallica, Megadeth y Anthrax.

Slayer ha sido fuertemente criticada por grupos religiosos de ser una banda de rock satánico, debido a que tanto sus letras como las portadas de sus álbumes tratan temas como el satanismo, la violencia, asesinato, asesinos seriales y guerras, y se le ha acusado de apoyar al nazismo. Esta última acusación fue formulada debido a la afición de Jeff Hanneman de coleccionar material de temática nazi y por letras como la de la canción «Angel of Death», que trata sobre el médico y criminal de guerra Josef Mengele. Los miembros del grupo siempre han negado estas imputaciones, asegurando que simplemente están interesados en el tema.

Desde su debut en 1983, la banda ha lanzado dos álbumes en vivo, dos recopilatorios y nueve álbumes de estudio, y ha vendido más de cuatro millones de álbumes sólo en los Estados Unidos. Ha recibido dos premios Grammy: uno en 2007 por la canción «Eyes of the Insane» y otro en 2008 por el tema «Final Six», y han liderado festivales mundiales como el Ozzfest y el Download Festival.
